Purpose
The Dutch bag filter is ideal for removing suspended substances that cloud your wines and musts. Perfect for filtering:
- Very cloudy wines
- Fermenting musts
- Lees
- Food liquids such as beer and vegetable oils
How It Works
Filtration occurs through the natural drop passage of the liquid through the conical cotton canvas. The filter consists of a canvas bag equipped with a sleeve with numerous vertical folds that promote uniform and effective liquid distribution.
Usage Instructions
- Soak the filter in a solution of warm water containing citric acid (about 20 g/liter) and potassium metabisulfite (about 3 g/liter) for at least one hour
- Thoroughly rinse the still damp filter
- Sprinkle the inner surface with diatomaceous earth, forming a thickness of about 2 millimeters
- Mix diatomaceous earth with wine (100-500 g/hectoliter)
- Pour the wine into the filter, inserted in a suitable canvas net equipped with rings at the top
- Allow to filter by natural drop

Before use, immerse the filter in a solution of water and potassium metabisulfite at 3 g/liter. Avoid using scented detergents for rinsing, as they may alter the organoleptic characteristics of your wines.
