What it is used for
This filter effectively removes suspended substances that cloud the wine, making it crystal clear. It is perfect for filtering:
- Very cloudy wines
- Fermenting musts
- Lees and deposits
- Wines and other food liquids (beer, vegetable oils)
How it works
Filtration occurs by natural falling: the must or wine simply passes through the cotton canvas, without requiring complex mechanical systems. The filter fits into a special canvas net equipped with upper rings that facilitate suspension and filtering.
How to use
- Soak the filter for 1 hour in warm water with citric acid (about 20 g/liter) and potassium metabisulfite (about 3 g/liter)
- Rinse thoroughly
- Sprinkle the still damp inner surface with diatomaceous earth, creating a thickness of 2 millimeters
- Mix diatomaceous earth with the wine (about 100-500 g/hectoliter)
- Pour the wine into the filter and wait for natural filtration
⚠️ Important warnings
- Before use, soak the filter in a solution of water and potassium metabisulfite (3 g/liter)
- Do not use scented detergents for rinsing – they may alter the taste of the wine
- Use only clean water and the indicated solutions for cleaning
