Preparing Your New Barrel: Step-by-Step Guide
To ensure the best aging performance, carefully follow these steps:
- Fill the barrel to 2/5 of its capacity with boiling water and salt, then shake well to moisten every part of the wood
- Let the solution rest for two days, shaking occasionally
- Empty the saltwater and rinse with pure water, allowing it to drain completely
- After one day, proceed with the wine treatment: fill with white wine and top up for about ten days
- Empty the wine and let it drain well for two days—do not rinse with water
- The barrel is now ready to receive and age your spirit
